We are delighted to report that Maison Du Biere has won 'Pub of the Season Autumn 2018'. Jo and Matt only recently took over an old antiques shop in Ashbourne to setup Masion Du Biere dispensing craft beers from near and far, real ciders and hundreds of bottled beers and ciders. The bar follows the same format as their sister bar in Elsecar, South Yorkshire who also recently won 'Pub of the Season Summer 2018' presented by Barnsley CAMRA.

The voting was unanimous, partly due to the high quality craft beers and real ciders, partly by the cosy seating area and a good percentage down to the friendliness and enthusiasm of Jo and Matt.

Maison Du Biere now not only enters the competition for Pub Of The Year 2018 alongside The Ostrich Inn at Longford (Summer winner) and The Red Lion at Kniveton (Spring winner) but also an entry in the coveted Good Beer Guide!

See below, appreciative email received from Roger Cassidy (second right in the pic'), trustee of Aquabox, this year's Ashbourne CAMRA 2018 Beer & Cider Festival's nominated charity:

'Thank you for sending through the pictures of last Sunday night's presentation.

It was a great pleasure to come along to your meeting yesterday and receive the cheque.

Receiving over £500 was fantastic and with such a sum, we are able to supply an 'Aqua 12' (Box of 12 'Family' filters) and a Community filter. These 13 filters will provide enough water for over 400 people, and Ashbourne CAMRA's efforts will make a real difference to communities in the aftermath of a disaster.

I mentioned last Friday that we have seen an unprecedented demand for water filters over the past 2-3 months as a result of the natural disasters in Southern India, the Philippines and Indonesia, as well as the human tragedies that are unfolding in the Yemen and Cameroon, and I thought you would be interested in receiving and reading the attached article*.

Thanks once again for all of your support and, if the Ashbourne CAMRA Beer & Cider Festival is good enough to choose Aquabox as their nominated charity next year, we would be delighted to work together once again.

Thank you for your help.

Roger
Aquabox Trustee'

During the 2018 Beer & Cider festival you voted for Kniveton Cider Company's 'Four in a corner' as cider of the festival and Old Sawley Brewery's 'Plummeth the Hour' as beer of the festival.

The certificate for Cider of the Festival was presented to Kniveton Cider Company owners Hannah and Kev at the September Branch meeting. It was a pleasure to present the award to a local cider producer and both Kev and Hannah work very hard to support the branch and to organise the ciders, cider bar and cider bar volunteers at the festival.

To present the certificate to Old Sawley brewery we took a trip across the border and were very pleased to be met by Roo (head brewer) and a number of members of the Erewash branch of CAMRA including Will who had arranged the evening. Roo gave us a tour of the brewery followed by the presentation of the certificate and then a very enjoyable evening discussing, and drinking, some of Old Sawley's great beers.

We noticed a framed print of the Facebook post we made to Old Sawley to let them know they had won the award so I think it is safe to say they are pleased to have received the award!

Current Ostrich Inn (Longford) publicans Rebecca Burrows and Paul Hotter are due to get the keys to the Cock Inn at Clifton this coming week (week commencing 5th November 2018). Both come with a wealth of experience of the licensed trade and are well known for quality Real Ale and recently won the Branch 'Summer Pub of the Season 2018' award. They are known for good food (especially the sunday roasts) and plenty of events and are looking forward to the pub becoming an important part of the village once more.

Due to the former kitchen being stripped out food won't be offered immediately but is firmly in the plans including a festive menu and themed food nights... watch this space...

The pub will reopen with a bang on Saturday the 17th November at 8pm with live entertainment and an opening party. All are welcome.

We are pleased to report that The Ostrich Inn, Longford, has won Pub Of The Season - Summer 2018! Paul and Bex have turned this pub around and feature regular events, great food, well kept real ale and a welcoming atmosphere.

The Ostrich Inn will also be added to the Pub Of The Year competition at the end of the year alongside The red Lion, Kniveton.
